“This is dissension / This is regression / This is all that you are programmed to be afraid of,” he fires through. He says the lyrics to “Rebirth Protocol,” sum up the album nicely. Finding the beauty underneath the darkness and using it as a weapon.” Viewing the outside and the inside differently. “It’s really looking within and reshaping your perception of yourself and what's around you - and gaining a new sort of power from it. “The broad theme of the album is very introspective,” DiDio continues. He explains the nature of some of the tracks, such as “Heightened Sense of Realization,” “Rebirth Protocol” and “Virus/Vibrance.” “Man, just reliving some old feelings that were written.” he reflects, vaguely. The motif behind the songs were equally effectual in the recording booth. The songs are longer, there's bigger ideas to them and more parts and structure.” I do a part over and over and over again and start to go insane. “It almost drives you more f***ing crazier than you already are. The newer Vein songs are just as frantic and erratic as before, only now they’re far more involved. It’s not just the physical nature of repetition, but the emotional one too. The experience has taught DiDio how taxing recording can be. Basically, heard the original versions and really understood what we were trying the do. It was like breathing new life into them. The band spent four weeks living at his studio in New Jersey. The version that comes out today via Closed Casket Activities was re-recorded this past November with respected metal producer Will Putney. In fact, they started writing and recording it in 2014. The band had started on their debut album when the hype first hit the streets. Vein performs at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, NY.
I had no idea it was going to cause that much of a buzz.” S*** just started getting crazy from there. “It was a compact dose of how we were feeling.
“The whole idea was just to make something raw and in your face, like super fast,” DiDio says. In 2016, they released a split 7” record, a right of passage in the hardcore community, that commanded a lot of attention. They later recorded some EPs, but at that point, they barely even played shows. The band put out a four-song self-titled demo in 2013. “Seeing it at a local level definitely changed everything,” DiDio says. After catching hometown bands like The Carrier, he realized what his own future would hold. Coming up, DiDio would go check out shows at Anchors Up!, a DIY venue in Haverhill. Vein has come a long way from humble beginnings in suburban Massachusetts. But this upcoming tour will put the band in front of more faces than ever before. They’ve played a few gigs with the mystical legends Glassjaw. Vein has previously toured the United States with hardcore bands like Ringworm, Harm’s Way and No Warning.
VEIN OF STARS BAND CODE
Code Orange, who recently experienced a similar explosion in notoriety, were nominated for a Grammy last year, but lost against the metal veterans in Mastodon. Opening up for heavyweights Code Orange will further earn their stripes. On their upcoming nationwide run, they’ll be blasting through the stage in 20 minute spurts. Playing brief but in-your-face sets has always been Vein’s go-to. Vein's debut album 'Errorzone' is out now. That means it’s something that is new.”Īnd the band has been welcoming new experiences, too. In the past month, the guys took to Europe for their first ever overseas tour with Twitching Tongues. That means it's something that’s affecting them in a way that they can't understand. But if people are putting question marks next to our band then that's a good thing. I don't think we really sound like 90% of the bands that people compare us to. “Everybody throws a tag or comparison on something in order to help themselves understand it. “I think that's cool that people can't figure it out,” DiDio says. While DiDio isn’t the biggest fan of comparisons, he’s happy that people are having trouble putting their sound into a box. They’ve been compared to genre-bending metal pioneers Converge others say they’re the next Slipknot. Critics and fans alike have scavenged to try to comprehend their sound. Before getting close to releasing a first full-length album, they were the most talked about band in the underground heavy music community.
